Make your life more colourful with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO)! Born in 1979, the SSO first started playing music 40 years ago.
You might’ve attended one of its free lunchtime concerts at its home, the Victoria Concert Hall (VCH), or in school, or even at the Botanic Gardens, where you can picnic while listening to beautiful orchestrated classical music.
This September, come see the SSO host one of its engaging Concerts for Children! Explore the world of Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood, a contemporary reiteration of the famous children’s classic, Peter and the Wolf. Recommended for ages 4 and above, this family favourite is not to be missed.

Composed in 1936 by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, the children’s classic of Peter and the Wolf has been completely reimagined and written as a prequel, transplanting the story and its characters to modern-day Los Angeles.
Go on an exciting musical adventure through a painted, sculpted and animated wonderland alongside great classical music, as Peter tries to save Hollywood from a wolf on the loose, which includes building a giant robot and a whirlwind helicopter chase!
The story explores themes of family and friendship, heroism and courage, while providing plenty of moments of laughter and humour as well.
Originally written for an orchestra with a narrator, previous iterations of Peter and the Wolf have included great personalities such as Sir David Attenborough of the BBC and Sting of, well, Sting as narrators.
The SSO’s iteration of this much-loved kids’ classic, however, will see the orchestra play live in accompaniment to the animated film instead. Cool!
Though previous SSO Concerts for Children have traditionally been held at Victoria Concert Hall, this performance will instead be held at the Esplanade, making the staging a unique opportunity for kids to experience the grandeur of the Esplanade Concert Hall.
So, even if you and your kiddos have seen a staging of Peter and the Wolf in the past, you will find this a fresh and new experience.
