See how pretty they can be?

What better way to get in the Mid-Autumn Festival spirit that with a quick and easy project the kids will love?!  If you’re kids can draw, glue and or cut, they will enjoy!

What you’ll need:

  • Paper (heavier paper tends to work a little better but regular A11/printer paper will do)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Markers, crayons, and if you’re up for glitter, you can try that too!

Procedure:

1. Decorate your paper as you wish. (For the brave parents attempting glitter, wait until it has dried before moving to step 2, or add the glitter after the lantern has been assembled.)

2. Fold the paper in half lengthwise.

3. Cut lines along the folded seam but don’t cut all the way through.

4. Unfold the paper.

5. Take the two shorter width ends and match them together to create a round tube.

6. Secure the lantern together in the above position with glue or tape. Attach together down the entire length of the lantern. If using tape, tape along the inside so it is not visible.

7. Voila!

8. Make a handle for your lantern by cutting a strip of paper.

9. Secure the handle to the top of the lantern using tape, glue or a stapler.

10. If you have colourful pipe cleaners or string, this could also be used as handles.

11. Hang your masterpieces and dig into those mooncakes!
