Oz expats in Singapore, this post goes out to you!
Just looking for quality meat for an upcoming BBQ? It’s also perfect for you.
If you were living under a rock in 2016, you may have missed this hilarious Operation Boomerang video, all about how much Australians love their lamb.
And with Australia Day coming up on January 26, it’s time to stock up on high-quality meat – lamb, beef, “snags” (that would be, sausages) – to put on the barbie. (Need an actual grill? Try Zener D.I.Y or these other SG hardware stores.)
Now, it’s time to meet your meat – at these great butchers and grocers around the Red Dot!
Ryan’s Grocery has a full-service butchery that offers grassfed organic beef, free-range pork and organic lamb, sourced from Australia and in “Australian” cuts. Plus, it has one of the island’s largest selections of affordable allergen-free, ethically sourced and organic products.
“My son Ryan is allergic to eggs, dairy, soy, nuts, gluten and yeast,” explains Wendy Chia, who started Ryan’s Grocery in 2015 with her husband, Sebastian, and brother, Willie. “Ryan was the inspiration.”
NEXT: Sasha’s Fine Foods →
Started by self-described “food-loving mum” Sasha Conlan, Sasha’s Fine Foods (which rebranded from The Barbie Girls in 2017), provides high-quality, ethically sourced, clean and fresh meats and fish from Australia and New Zealand such as the Australian Black Angus Striploin Steak (from $27.50) and New Zealand Grass-fed Beef Striploin Steak ($24.90).
Shop online and orders above $100 qualify for free next day delivery.
NEXT: Foodie Market Place →
This Singaporean specialty grocery store stocks a wide variety of meats (including grass-fed Australian lamb and frozen turkeys, depending on the season), cheeses and pantry staples at super-great prices!
Tip: Get to either of Foodie Market Place’s two locations – in Tiong Bahru (on Outram Road) and on the East Coast (Tanjong Katong Road) – early, as the stores tend to sell out later in the day. They’re open from 11 am to 8 pm on Tuesday to Friday, and 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
NEXT: The Butcher →
Styled on a contemporary Australian butchery, The Butcher offers more than just the usual steak, chops and sausages. Come here for premium meats, an array of Australian and New Zealand wines and delicatessen products, cheeses, pies and sausage rolls, seafood and organic meats.
NEXT: Oh Deli →
Boasting superior Dorper Lamb from Australia, let Oh Deli stock your fridge for Aussie Day. Why is Dorper lamb so delicious? Because the breed sheds its wool, the result is clean, fresh taste with low aroma. A must try!
Also, it carries a well-curated selection of organic produce and gourmet foods (think Italian Burrata cheese, truffle oil, olives and wine), plus fresh gourmet sausages, Scottish salmon, beef, chicken and pork.
NEXT: Huber’s Butchery →
Huber’s Butchery is a European-style premium specialty store with one of the widest selections of homemade sausages and hams in Singapore. It’s got a fabulous range of meats as well, including a whole Rack of Lamb, free-range Osso Buco veal, Australian wagyu ribeye and Organic beef sirloin for roasting.
Bonus: It’s well-stocked with cold cuts, cheeses and easy-to-prepare marinated meats for folks who need dinner pronto. Visit the store (at 22 Dempsey Road, 249679) or order online. As the butchery promises on its site, “We prepare, pack and deliver your orders as if they were our own, so rest assured that they reach you in tiptop condition.”
NEXT: The Fishwives →
Don’t be put off by the name, The Fishwives also carries red meat, specifically: PureBlack, Black Angus grass-fed beef from Tasmania (like the tenderloin, above), and organic grass-fed fresh lamb.
But, yeah, it’s most known for its top-notch, sustainably sourced seafood, from Australian King Prawns, MSC-certified Glacier51 Patagonian Toothfish (wild caught and frozen at sea) to Fresh Whole Akaroa Salmon “reared in the isolated, pristine and picturesque Lucas Bay” in New Zealand, notes the site.
NEXT: Culina →
Culina runs one of Singapore’s largest butchery chains, offering specialty meats, including cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken, sausages and burger patties, as well as seafood and other fine foods.
Its premium brands include Black Onyx, Maori Lakes, Francefish (seafood), Herbie’s Spices and San Pellegrino and Louis Jadot (beverages).
You can also get your meats marinated for free, and if you’ve got no time to prep, pick up their handsome oven-ready rolled roasts. Visit the Culina Market at 15 Dempsey Road, 249675.
NEXT: Swiss Butchery →
One of the pioneer premium butchers in Singapore since 1994, there’s a reason Swiss Butchery is still around – and so popular.
It is said to carry the largest selection of fine-chilled premium meats, house made sausages and hams in SG, with more than 300 varieties of meats to choose from for that BBQ or dinner party you’ve got coming up.
Its beef varieties include US Prime and Angus beef, Australian Wagyu, Angus 200-day grain-fed beef, organic beef and more. Not sold? Then, get a load of its gorgeous produce, seafood and other gourmet groceries. Check out its locations here or shop online.
NEXT: Meat the Butcher →
Claiming to be “Singapore’s Friendliest Premium Retail Butchery”, Meat the Butcher is the kinder, gentler version of some of the larger high-end chains.
And, unlike some of its competitors, it sells crazy-popular Welsh lamb. With the distinction of having a PGI rating (Protected Geographical Indication), the Welsh Lamb’s traceability and safety are of the highest standard (on par with Parma Ham from Italy).
