Here's where to go to spend some much needed time alone.
Doing things alone might seem daunting, but sometimes if you’re feeling really stressed out and need a break from everything, quality time alone is the best.
Scroll through the gallery to find out how you can spend quality me-time in Singapore without feeling lonely!
1. Let Your Inner Picasso Out
Unleash your inner Picasso out at Arteastiq. With a blank canvas, soothing tunes and a hot cuppa, you can spend the day painting away. Other than the fees, you don’t have to bring anything with you as they provide everything – from the canvas to acrylic paints, sponges, brushes and even a free drink.
2. Chill With a Good Book
One of the best ways to spend some quality me-time is to wind down with a book. Spend your day curled up at one of the national libraries in town, or head down to a quiet cafe like The Book Cafe to enjoy a good read with a cuppa coffee or tea.
3. Attend Open Mic Events
Open mic events like poetry slams and comedy shows are plenty of fun, so try your hand at participating in one! Located at Kampong Glam, Blu Jaz Cafe has open mic sessions every week on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Check out their schedule for more information!
4. Hit Some Home Runs
Need somewhere to vent your anger or any negative emotions? Homerun baseball is your best bet. Swing all the negativity away in an air-conditioned batting cage. The system is automated, so there’s no need to chase after the ball after every hit.
6. Head to the Aquarium
If you head to the S.E.A aquarium in the morning before the horde of energetic children and excited tourists arrive, you’ll find yourself having some peaceful alone time to admire the aqua-life. There are plenty of empty spaces in the aquarium for you to sit and admire the fishes in peace.
7. Shop till You Drop
The best thing when it comes to shopping alone is that you can take your own time picking out the ideal outfit without feeling guilty for making your friends wait. If you’re looking to shop without burning a hole in your wallet, try thrift shopping at PraiseHaven Thrift Shop by The Salvation Army. The mega thrift store sells everything you’ll ever need – from fashion buys to toddler wear to furniture and more!
8. Go On A Hike
Take a break from the hustle of the city and reconnect with nature. Sitting behind a desk all day isn’t good for your body or your mind. Going for a hike is the best way to get clear, fresh air whilst exercising and clearing your mind. Whether you trek up Bukit Timah Nature Reserve or spend your day hiking MacRitchie Reservoir, you’ll definitely feel more in touch with nature after!
9. Go Stargazing
It’s difficult to stargaze in Singapore because of the bright city lights, but the Science Centre Observatory is the one place where you can catch a glimpse of the twinkling stars in the sky. The best part? It’s completely free! Make sure to follow their Facebook for the latest updates.
10. Conquer Your Fears, Alone!
When you are alone, no one can laugh at your terrified face or any fears that you might have. Challenge your fears by heading to Phobia²: The Science of Fear, a new fear exhibition by the Science Centre Singapore. Get over your fear of being buried alive, or even roller-coaster rides at the exhibition! Find out more on the website.
11. Go Record Hunting
While Spotify and Apple Music are just a tap away on our phones, there’s nothing like the thrill of listening to timeless music that’s soothing. If you’re a beginner, check out House of Turntables. From records to turntables, the store has everything.
