Dreaming is free – and so is our magazine!
If you ever see an issue of The Finder while hanging out in a coffee shop, your kid’s school lobby or any other spot around SG, please feel free to take it.
You never need to feel like you’re “stealing” it. We want you to take The Finder. It is for you.
Now, with that public service announcement out of the way, let’s talk about this here Issue 299! Ain’t it a beauty?
I’m especially smitten with the cover and image on the Insider’s Guide section opener, taken by photographer Palita Mak-Drury.
When Palita shared with me that her family had recently styled the outdoor area of their East Coast condo with greenery from Tumbleweed Plants, I had to see it for myself. The breezy balcony scene was so charming, it was a no-brainer to put it on the cover.
From start to finish, it took Palita and fam three months to renovate their old unit into a chic, kid-friendly space – with the help of boutique interior design firm The Carpenter’s Workshop. Watch this behind-the-scenes video from our Issue 299!
Whether it’s sharing personal recos such as Palita’s, or those of our Finder Insiders (see below and here), or reporting stories targeted at newcomers to the Lion City, our aim is to demystify the process of moving here, setting up house and then settling in. The Finder’s mission is to help people “live well in Singapore”, after all.
Some highlights in this issue: Both the “Expats’ Guide to Renting in Singapore” (read it online here) and “Make Over Your Move” (check it out here) stories feature exclusive expert insights. The latter – from one of our favourite decluttering pros Nathalie Ricaud of Get Organised & Beyond – makes relocating way less stressful by breaking it down into manageable tasks. And expats do tend to relocate, am I right?
Another definite keeper: our “Scrumptious Brunches” roundup, which is even bigger and better online!
Do please forgive us for fudging the usual Hot ’Hood column name – we know Johor is located in neighbouring Malaysia (see our recos on where to go for “A Day Out” here).
Last, don’t miss our Special Report on “Everything You Need to Know about Getting Divorced in Singapore… as an Expat” (read the entire story online).
As a foreigner in SG, I’ve heard horror stories about contentious divorce proceedings involving expats that dragged on and on.
So, I asked the co-authors of 2017 book Dear Ms Expat to look into the issue for The Finder’s 300,000 users. IMO, we now have the most comprehensive story on the topic out there.
Please tell us what you think at firstname.lastname@example.org.
