Blue House Nursery & International Preschool is a Reggio Emilia-inspired preschool. It offers a choice of two, three, or five half or full days per week, with a nap option for the youngest children.
The school creates a learning environment that ignites curiosity and invites children into an active learning process. The connected and intimate school community recognises that learning is
best supported through a child’s interactions and relationships with their peers, families, educators and staff who believe in them.
The school’s outdoor spaces are inviting, diverse and plentiful, supporting children by creating a context of research, to bring learning to life through real meaning, interactivity and natural, open-ended resources.
Blue House offers an emergent curriculum that supports the children in taking ownership of the learning journey. Their projects and fields of inquiry move and flow with their questions, theories, opinions and ideas – powerful in the knowledge that their voices are important to the world.
At Blue House, educators are nurturers, observers, facilitators and guides and, with low educator-to-child ratios, they scaffold the children’s journey. They ask questions and gently direct the children into new fields of research, always encouraging the children to question, problem-solve, and be creative and curious in order to find answers and test their theories.
“Our two boys love Blue House so much, on weekends they complain that they can’t go. As parents, we can see how the child-led approach gives the boys confidence and encourages them to think for themselves. The activities aren’t only fluid and guided by the children’s interests, but lead to an interest in writing and reading through the development of gross motor skills to fine motor skills. Every morning, the kids wait with their faces pressed against the gate chanting, ‘Open the gate!’ When it opens, they all stream through while Mr. Elliot (the Music Specialist) is playing his guitar and the teachers are greeting each child. It’s a special place!” – Jessica and Ian Toft, parents to Ethan, 5, and Caleb, 3
