If you meet Kara at her chic Joo Chiat Road retail space, you’ll likely be impressed by her genuine warmth and effortless style.
Though the Aussie mum with a 3-year-old son makes success look easy, she’s worked hard for every ounce of it – from earning a college scholarship while majoring in Fashion Design to building her lifestyle business, The WYLD Shop, from scratch. What started here as an e-commerce site eight years ago, now includes a brick-and-mortar store, opened in June 2018.
“It’s a cosy environment where we aim for customers to always feel welcome and be able to shop with ease,” explains Kara. “We bring in fashion and accessory brands that are exclusive to us, but mix it up with a li’l local love.” That includes Australian high-street brands such as Staple the Label and Le Specs as well as Asia-based designers like Just Gaya’s and Colour Addict jewellery.
Her favourite part of running her own business? “Working alongside and making friends with extraordinary people,” she says. “Basically, being able to have fun every day.”
About The Finder Expatpreneur Awards
In 2017, The Finder debuted its first-ever Expatpreneur Awards to honour foreign-born entrepreneurs running successful expat-owned businesses in or from Singapore. In 2018, 23 expats were awarded for their tremendous dedication. This 2019, a new batch of 22 Expatpreneur Awardees have been unveiled! All of them have one thing in common: Their brands help people “live well in Singapore” – The Finder’s core mission.
