Expatpreneur Awards 2019: How Most Innovative Award Winners Sarah and Bo Pinel VALUE Customer Satisfaction

"Delivering on excellent customer service is our number-one priority," share the Tekkie Help co-founders.

If married duo Bo and Sarah hadn’t won this year’s Most Innovative Award, they’d definitely have clinched the (unofficial) award for most nominations!

Once we announced the upcoming Expatpreneur Awards in early 2019, our inbox was flooded with testimonials on behalf of Tekkie Help.

Just one example: “My expertise is providing crisis management advice to large corporations,” wrote Janice Armstrong. “But, I often have my own crises with computers and software, and if I could not call on Tekkie Help to fix them, I could not stay in business.”

Janice and other IT-phobic folks like her are exactly who Bo and Sarah had in mind when they started Tekkie Help seven years ago. After moving here from the U.K. in 2011 with “two suitcases, a 1-year-old and no job!”, as Sarah says with a laugh, they quickly realised that many new acquaintances in Singapore were struggling with the latest technologies.

“They either didn’t have the skills, patience or time to get the most out of their IT,” says Bo. “Expats have a much smaller support network, and many do not have an IT guru friend or family member here to help.”

The couple looked at the competition, and there wasn’t anyone providing holistic IT support. So, they registered their new business in 2012. Back then, they operated Tekkie Help out of their house, with Bo as the sole repair person, and Sarah handling phone and email inquiries, the website and the rest.

Today, theirs is still the only such business in SG that’s a “one-stop shop” for fixing any sort of IT issue. Its services include repairing hardware and software, installing and troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks; installing music systems, IP cameras and more; performing data recovery; and even organising digital photo libraries!

However, Tekkie Help’s personalised approach to customer service is what really sets it apart. “Delivering on excellent customer service is our number-one priority,” says Sarah, who along with Bo, is raising two boys, aged 9 and 6, and now works out of a Joo Chiat office, overseeing a team of 10. After receiving a multitude of requests from fellow business owners in SG, the pair started Tekkie Help.biz in February 2018 to assist these companies with their own IT probs.

What’s next? The duo is expanding into educational IT training for business people and non-. Janice Armstrong, take note!
