We've found all the must have apps to make your life easier!

Lost your way? Need a cab now? Want groceries delivered? Let these apps come to your rescue.

Technology is meant to minimise the clutter in our lives. But if you live amongst clutter in your “real” life, chances are your virtual life will also be cluttered. If you and your phone suffer from the flawed logic that more is more, it’s time for an app detox. However, you need to download (and keep) these. And they’re all free!

street directory Street Directory

This isn’t just any old map app. Type in any destination and it will give you 4 ways to get there, including estimated time and cost of each option. You can follow your taxi route (and respond when the driver asks you which way you want to go!), and see when the next bus or train will arrive.

uberUber & GrabTaxi

There are several taxi apps which are invaluable. Uber lets you set your account to directly charge your credit card so you won’t need to fumble with your wallet. But check out GrabTaxi too, as you’ll need options when rain showers leave half the island looking for a ride home.

IRISIRIS & Next Ride

If you rely on the bus to get to the office or the kids hop on them to get to school, you’ll need one of the bus schedule apps. IRIS is the most user friendly, but Next Ride is also useful as it shows you multiple routes on MRT, LRT and on foot, and has an easy-to-read timetable.

Singapore MetroSingapore Metro

If you’re wondering what’s the fastest way to get to Orchard Road from Upper Bukit Timah, then this app is what you need. You can find these maps at the MRT stations but when you’re out and about looking for the fastest route to happy hour, you’ll thank us for this. It’s also a good route planner, giving you route, time and price information.

Meet UpMeet Up

Whether you’re a newbie expat or have been here for years, it’s always fun to meet new people. The Meet Up app makes it easy. Search for groups based on common interests or shared goals, join and attend their next meet up. There are hundreds of active Singapore Meet Up groups, ranging from mums to writing and running groups, that will help you expand your social network. And if you don’t see a group that speaks to you, then create your own!

Red MartRed Mart

This app is easy to use, delivery is efficient, and customer service is excellent. Every week it seems they are expanding their grocery and non-grocery selections. They have weekly sales and prices are comparable to FairPrice. Order right from your smartphone and choose your own two-hour delivery time slot! Delivery is free for orders above $75, but first-time sign ups get free delivery for a $30 purchase. They even deliver on public holidays.

Sky ScannerSky Scanner

Take advantage of Singapore’s size and location by booking as many excursions as you can with this flight finder. Each of the major airlines have apps, but Skyscanner will search them all and compare prices for you. Explore fare deals and book flights from your phone! If only packing were this easy…

Hungry Go WhereHungry Go Where

As one of the foodie capitals of the world, fresh, local food is around every corner. Resist the urge to get delivery and instead, use this food and restaurant review app to search for outlets and eateries by name. Or find inspiration by browsing categories based on cuisine, neighbourhood, or popularity. Read “best of” reviews and timely articles about where and what to eat for certain holidays and seasons. And we love these bonus features: Not only can you book a table directly from your phone, you’ll always be alerted about special promotions and the best deals at some of Singapore’s top restaurants.

Straits TimesThe Straits Times

You may already have your favourite news apps but it’s time to ditch those and get The Straits Times app! Choose from dozens of categories to get the best local and international news as it’s happening. View jobs, classifieds, property listings and even video content and you’ll find you’re always in the know.

Weather LahWeatherLah!

Okay, you don’t really need this app. This is Singapore, where the weather here is as predictable as the sun rising. But in addition to a very local weather reading, this app will also alert you to increasing haze levels and incoming rain, so you’re never caught without your umbrella! There’s even an alert for flood warnings. WeatherLah! isn’t just useful; the interface is stylish and extremely user friendly, and that makes it a definite winner in any book.
