Treat yourself to all things local because it’s SG’s birthday!
This 9 August is Singapore’s National Day, and is the biggest occasion for everyone (that includes you) to watch fireworks, make merry and indulge in a favourite pastime: eating. With dine and wine activities happening throughout August, spoil yourselves silly… by starting with this list of National Day-inspired cuisine.
Here’s a fact: Singaporeans love all kinds of seafood, and lots of it. Imagine how happy your SG mates will be when you bring them to Angie’s Oyster Bar‘s National Day menu ($88++). Choose between Angie’s signature dishes for mains and end the meal with the chocolate fudge brownie while enjoying the awesome fireworks show. Kids menu is also available!

What happens when you combine SG’s beloved dish, laksa (rice noodles in curry sauce) and Spain’s traditional rice dish? Probably something akin to Esquina‘s Barcelona-born head chef’s National Day inspired dish, the Laksa Paella with Carabinero Prawn and Cuttlefish Tagliatelle.
What it is: Lobster and fish stock enhanced Arborio rice with squid noodles, infused with laksa leaves, ikan bilis (anchovies) and onions, and served with mussels instead of the usual cockles found in laksa and a Carabinero prawn. Catch this exclusive dish on 9 August in a special tasting menu at $54++.

Instead of just trying out SG-inspired fare, why not attend a whole SG-inspired shindig? The two dining spots Botanico and Bee’s Knees at the multi-concept F&B establishment The Garage in Singapore Botanic Gardens will be holding Kampong Garage where your kids (and you) can get to play traditional games such as five stones (a throw and catch game with five small stones or sewn bags), chapteh (a game where you kick a feathered object) and hopscotch (jumping on grid squares).
Plus, receive a complimentary limited edition goodie bag with every order of Asian-inspired mains at Bee’s Knees. Choose from Laksa Tiger Prawn Pasta, Oriental Salad or Pandan Pancake.

The Lobby Lounge at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore has a mission to preserve the heritage of hawker dishes — its latest offering is a showcase of specially curated local hawker dishes. And to commemorate Singapore’s 54 years of nationhood, The Line at the hotel will present a celebration of local food inspired by the traditional street food of the 1980s. Enjoy a nostalgic all-you-can-eat spread of tropical fruits, including durians and retro snacks, as well as distinctly local food and beverage favourites from the restaurant’s 16 live-cooking stations.
But hurry! The Flavours of Singapore buffet is only available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday dinner from 18 July to 10 August 2019.
