It’s never too late for food in Singapore.
One of the things we love most about living in Singapore is the availability of food pretty much 24/7 – and mostly at affordable prices too. We all have our personal favourite late-night prata or Teochew porridge joints that we frequent and most of us can name which coffee shops or hotel restaurants are open till late. But if you’re looking for some new ideas, here are eight places to check out the next time the midnight hunger pangs hit you.
Dim sum after midnight? Why not? This popular Hong Kong chain – a Michelin-starred one, no less – is a great spot for dim sum and its Kallang Avenue outlet here opens till 3am on certain days of the week. You just never know when the dim sum craving will hit you so it’s good to keep this in mind and plan ahead. Perhaps you want one of their ‘Four Heavenly Kings’ – Baked Bun with BBQ pork, Steamed Egg Cake, Beancurd Skin with Pork & Shrimp, and Pan Fried Carrot Cake – or their piping hot siew mais. Whatever it is, you know you’ll definitely be craving for more even after you’re done.

Modern American comfort food is the order of the day here so whether you fancy a late big meal, want to share one with friends or simply didn’t have time to eat all day, this is where to get it. Pick a burger, get their special Spruce Spicy Wings (there are four types to choose from) or try a main dish like Char Grilled BBQ Chicken or Tim’s Baby Back Ribs.
It’s a great spot for a late-night catch up with friends – happy hour lasts till midnight on Mondays to Thursdays and on Sundays, plus there’s even live music on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 7.30 to 10.30pm.
There are two outlets, at East Coast Road (Spruce@Katong) and Upper Bukit Timah Road (Spruce@Fire Station), but it’s the latter that opens till late. Do note that last orders are at 11.45pm.

Singaporeans love fried chicken so we definitely need an option to snack on this late in the night too. Often named as the best Korean fried chicken in Singapore, Chicken Up has a couple of outlets that open late on certain days. The secret to these tasty wings is that each chicken part is marinated for 12 hours, so all the spices are sealed in when the chicken is then deep fried. The flavours do really burst out of every bite.
There are three ways to enjoy these chicken wings – ganjang (soya), yangnyum and spicy yangnyum. Other chicken dishes are available too, such as half chicken, popcorn chicken and savoury boneless chicken, as well as noodles, salads and a variety of fries, so there’s something for everyone.

So you fancy some spice late at night but don’t want your usual prata or mee goreng? Try a taco instead. This Mexican taqueria‘s signature item, Tacos al Pastor (fresh pork marinated in a special recipe of herbs and spices), is a must-try. You know you’re getting authentic Mexican street cuisine here as it imports its fresh ingredients and chillies from Mexico and even owns a tortilla factory in Singapore. Expect tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, enchiladas, burritos…and lots more. Just make sure you top them off with some spicy salsa.

Each of its outlets specialises in different sorts of cuisine and the casual chic outlet at Clarke Quay is perfect if you’re craving for late-night fish and chips. Plus, it’s open till very late too. It’s not just the food here that will keep you coming back for more; cosy al fresco dining is always a hit and especially so when you’re surrounded by the beautiful architecture of Clarke Quay. Signature dishes include Spicy Chicken Wings, Black Angus Cheeseburger, BBQ Pork Ribs and, of course, their much-loved Fish & Chips.

This is a popular spot especially with people who live in the east and you’ll know why when you dine here. It’s an outdoor cafe (definitely more comfortable dining here at night) that is surrounded by lush greenery and gives a peaceful vibe as you’re surrounded by nature. The atmosphere is cosy, the food is good and you’ll also get live musical performances to accompany your meal. The menu is a mix of local and western cuisines and the open-concept kitchen adds a nice touch to this casual restaurant. Their chicken wings are often talked about so it’s no surprise that they’re known as Bark Cafe Famous Chicken Wings. There are burgers, pastas, pizzas, plus local dishes like sambal nasi goreng and crayfish hor fun so a wide range of tastes are catered for.

There’s no rule that says you can’t have dessert at midnight, so if you’re the type who loves a late-night sugar rush, this is the place to go. Janice Wong is the woman behind this dessert bar and her creations have been talked about not just here in Singapore but globally too (she has appeared on MasterChef Australia, for example).
Located in Holland Village, it’s a sweet spot (no pun intended) to while away a few hours late in the night. You’ll get classic desserts such as Chocolate Tart and Tiramisu, or try something different like Flower Shower (Cheesecake Espuma, Strawberry Parfait, Raspberry Disc, Orange Blossom Jelly) and Tomato Strawberry. There are also some delicious ice-cream flavours such as Blood Orange Sorbet and Coconut Marshmallow Sherbet. If you need something more filling, there’s a small savoury menu too, with delights such as Popcorn Chicken and Cheese Melts Toasties. And why not bring something home for the next day (or later, we won’t judge) – the chocolate bonbons here feature exciting flavours like Chilli Padi, Praline Poprocks, Kaffir Lime Caramel and Mango Curry.

This halal restaurant serves traditional Japanese cuisine that has been altered to suit the local palate. The secret is in how the chicken-based soup is prepared – by boiling meat and bones for 30 hours and not adding any artificial flavouring. So what you’ll get is a soup that’s lighter than the thick broth at most Japanese restaurants, but with a delicious rich texture. It’s made as naturally as possible too, with no added MSG, salt or sugar.
There’s a good range of ramen dishes to try here including their Mushroom Ramen which comes with chicken chashu, nameko and enoki mushrooms topped with tempura battered shiitake mushrooms, and Volcano Ramen, its most popular dish. This dish ,which comes in three levels of spiciness, is not for the faint-hearted — red chillis and dried Indian chilli padi are added to the mix to create a fiery kick. If you just want some light bites, there’s a variety of sushi and sashimi dishes too. They close at 5am so you have plenty of time to tuck into the food here.
