What’s cooking? A blue-themed cafe, Scandinavian seafood fiesta and more!
If there’s one spot in Singapore that captures the passionate, lively Latino spirit, the trendy Casa Poncho is it. On the sharing menu are favourites like grilled octopus (pictured), chilli cheese churros and more, best paired with their potent Mezcal-based cocktails.

This new spot isn’t just riding the trend of healthy grain bowls, but taking it several notches up. How? In case you haven’t yet guessed from its name, many of their components are pickled in-house, from cucumber to sauerkraut to pineapple tepache, to retain its nutritional value while giving it a sour-salty kick. Pick from chicken, beef, salmon or vegan.

Some 45 years and 20 outlets later, this popular Hawaiian cafe’s first foray into Southeast Asia brings with it the brand’s specialties. You guessed it: eggy dishes like the cheese and spam scrambled eggs, and their fluffy buttermilk pancakes (pictured) topped with a mountain of their raved-about whipped cream, at once delicate yet sweet. Trust us, you will polish all that cream off the plate.

So we heard, the last time there was a Scandinavian restaurant in Singapore was almost 30 years ago. Leading a revival in this seafood-centric cuisine, the menu reads extremely well with dishes like the Atlantic Cod and Raw Hand Dived Scallops (pictured). Love what you’re eating? Get these Scandinavian groceries at the adjoining market.

The grilled cheese to end all grilled cheeses: the eponymous 52 Grilled Cheese is a stringy blend of 3 cheeses – mozzarella, cheddar and provolone – embraced by crispy grilled brioche. Give it a more savoury punch with pulled pork or wagyu beef.

First things first: If you’re wondering what sorcery this blue wine is, we’ll assure you that it’s indeed real wine (with 11.5% ABV!) made from red and white grape varieties – and it’s available only at quirky Avatar-themed cafe Blue Willow. On the food front, chances are, you’ll get something blue in your order, too. Yes, even the carbonara.

One for the kids (and kits at heart): say “Bello!” to the pop-up Minions Cafe. The entire menu is inspired by the adorable characters and story of the movie Despicable Me. Hurry on down, though, as this cute cafe closes its doors at the end of January!
