Middle Eastern restaurants are hard to find in Singapore, making restaurants that do serve these cuisines hidden gems.
Here are some of the best!
Make no mistake, the dishes at Fat Prince are modern and sophisticated, bringing new flavours to its recently-refurbished space. It’s not only cosy and perfect for date nights, but its dishes are well-portioned and perfect for sharing with friends and family, too.
Be sure to order the Cashew Hummus with roasted capers ($10), its charred Shishito peppers ($16), and Roasted Candy Beetroot ($16) to start with: these dishes are full of flavour and crunch, making them the perfect appetiser. (The Roasted Candy Beetroot is also the perfect vegetarian and gluten-free option). If you’re a fan of duck, Fat Prince’s Duck Pastilla ($18) is a dish that is not to be missed.
Order a portion of the slow-cooked Lamb Shoulder ($32 per 100g), prepared in the restaurant’s built-in earth pit oven for over 15 hours, and marinated with spiced molasses, sumac and chilli.
Don’t forget to complement your meal with any of its cocktails – though we personally recommend the Gimlet 100 for those who like tangy and easy to drink cocktails; the classic Morning Star, a crowd favourite; or Verde, a tequila and agave-based cocktail with zhoug, a Middle Eastern spice made from peppers – so distinct, you’ll remember it for days to come.
