4 Great Seafood Restaurants

Seafood boils: full of fresh crustaceans and delightful to the very last drop of sauce. Here are our favourites to tuck into – bare mitts and all.

 

THE PELICAN BOIL, $128 (serves two to three)

The CBD is the last place you’d expect to find well-dressed yuppies digging into seafood with their bare hands.  And yet, every Saturday, tables of them convene at The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill and tuck into The Pelican Boil – ocean-fresh Maine lobster, seasonal crab, and an assortment of mussels, clams and prawns prepared in a lightly seasoned broth of white wine and vegetables. Portion-wise, it’s not the most generous, but the experience of chowing down on fresh seafood against the backdrop of Marina Bay is pretty awesome.

 

CABOODLE BOIL, from $299 (serves three to four)

This is quite the sight when served – the massive pot of mini lobsters, crabs, prawns, clams, sausages, corn and potatoes form a veritable mountain of food when emptied onto the table. Its sauce, a piquant blend of local and Louisiana spices, lightly enhances the sweet flesh of the seafood, and three homemade dips – ‘Exotic’ Malaysian Sambal Dip, Thai Green Bird Dip and Louisiana Garlic Butter Dip – complement the crustaceans. The fresh seafood doesn’t require much help in the way of taste, so go ahead and skip those. An upsized version ($399, serves six to eight) is also available.

 

THE ROYAL CATCH (depends on the choice and weight of seafood ordered)

Skip the sole combo bag and create your own seafood feast from scratch instead – it’s far more fun and indulgent this way. Take your pick from options such as Dungeness crabs, Maine lobsters, Ecuador white prawns and Manila clams, then have them mixed in one of the five homemade sauces, at your preferred spice level. The King’s Mix – a blend of Cajun spices, garlic and lemon butter – is our favourite and when set at Spicy, is so shiok that we can’t stop licking our fingers clean of the sauce.

If you and your date have no qualms about getting down and dirty (with your food!), this is just the thing for a date-night feast. A Sri Lankan crab, prawns, mussels, potatoes, corn and sausages are cooked in the restaurant’s signature sauce derived from a traditional New Orleans recipe and given a secret touch (a combination of spices and a certain length of cooking time, we hear). It comes in three spice levels – Mild, Spicy and Extra Spicy. Opt for Spicy if you like your food with some kick but without the tongue-numbing heat.
