Forget the six-pack! Try a craft beer-filled growler from these bars instead.
1. Amber Nectar
There are four different beers available for growler takeaways: Hofbräu Original, the darker style, spicy Hofbräu Dunkel, the fruity Münchner Weisse, a German Hefeweizen (unfiltered wheat beer) and the Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen, known for its distinctive smoky finish. The tinted brown glass growler can store up to 4 pints (1.89 litres) and keeps out UV rays so your beer stays fresher for longer. $36 and up per growler, but prices are cheaper when you bring it back for refills. This popular restaurant and bar serves up a mean makgeolli – that’s Korean rice beer for the uninitiated – and delish drinking snacks like tofu chips ($20), Joo Bangers & Mash ($24) and the popular mangalitsa belly. But it’s also got a special growler tap that pours two brews – the original and the dunkel – from Hofbrau. $45 for the larger and $50 for the Weizen. (5 Tan Quee Lan St, www.joo-bar.com)
