Go out, eat, drink and make merry during the FIFA World Cup 2018.
For a whole month – 14 June till 15 July to be exact – some of you will be glued to the people’s game on your small TV screens and online. But, why watch this all important global competition home alone when you can join your mates (and make more friends) at public screenings held at bars and restos in SG? Here, we pick 8 of the best establishments to get your game on.
While you can find this chain of drink dives in 21 different locations, we especially heart the one at CHIJMES. Aside from the fact that its a gathering ground for expat and Singaporean drink buds, the one here is easy to get to by public transport (via City Hall MRT) and has a lawn outside on the grounds of CHIJMES to relax on when you need some fresh air. Another plus: other establishments at CHIJMES will also be holding screenings of the matches, along with World Cup related F&B promotions and contests for patrons to win prizes such as a Budweiser World Cup 2018 uniform kit.

Most fellas in SG will know of this stalwart of the bar scene. So it’s a no-brainer for soccer fans and drink fiends to head here – the bar’s even started the countdown to FIFA with video uploads on Facebook to celebrate. Centrally located at the Orchard district, it should make a convenient spot to grab dinner (hopefully their Bacon Butty sandwich will be available by the time FIFA rolls round) before cheering for your fave team.
442 Orchard Rd, Claymore Connect, #01-01/05, 238879
What’s going for this resto that serves Mediterranean fare: decently priced Middle Eastern nosh, affordable beer and a riverside view (it’s located at Boat Quay, near the Singapore River). And not to mention, the owner Esad Sejdic, is an ex-professional soccer player in SG’s professional league for men’s association football clubs, the S. League (now known as the Singapore Premier League) so you can trade stories with the man if you want.
No. 58 Boat Quay, 049847
If you want to spend a classy dinner evening while watching soccer, you won’t do any better than at the highest alfresco bar in the world. For the first time, this lifestyle destination will be screening the World Cup, so just imagine: Taking in the win for the team that you love, then taking in the 360-degree panoramic view of Singapore, while perched 282 metres above sea level.
1 Raffles Place, 048616
Another establishment by the Singapore River is this Aussie sports bar with branches at Robertson Quay and Boat Quay. It takes itself seriously about gaming and physical activities – this so-called “Singapore’s Home of Live Sport” publishes a weekly comprehensive guide to sports in SG on its site. Both of its outlets will be showing the matches live, but it’s recommended that you reserve a table before the big game starts as prime dining & watching spots get taken up fast.
60 Robertson Quay, #01-15, The Quayside, 238252; and 52 Circular Rd, 049407
Of course, Singapore’s longest running microbrewery restaurant won’t be missing out on the action. As one of the pioneering bars to publicly screen previous World Cup tournaments, it will be continuing the tradition this year as well. Find your place at any of its four outlets (check out its “Sports Live!” schedule first) to keep track of all the matches and chug down its award winning beers. Fun-fact: Brewerkz has a World Beer Cup gold medal for English-style India Pale Ale(IPA).
Tuck into this bar‘s London pub-style meals, or other local and Western fare, before knocking back its cocktails of the month such as Mojito and Caipiroska ($12) as you watch the people’s game take place in Russia. Note: Do check their Facebook page for weekly updates on its live sports screenings.
26/27 Boat Quay, 049817
How about some quality DJ-spun music to accompany your pastas, pizzas or bar bites such as the ubiquitous sliders, alongside the rah-rahs of soccer fans? Or drinks specials – Prosecco on Wednesdays, Margarita for Tuesdays, and Thursday Beer Nights – to get you in the mood for all that ball playing? The Berlin Bar promises all these and more. Bonus: As part of the “Flaunt Your Jersey” promotion, this tenant of CHIJMES will gift a Cinzano Mojito on the house to each customer who patronises the joint in his or her favourite team’s jersey.
