O.P.E.N. Kitchens - 2017 Singapore International Festival of Arts
Specially commissioned by the 2017 Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA), O.P.E.N. Kitchens is a unique and first-of-its-kind arts encounter, that seeks to bring people together over food as well as shared stories. The highlight is the collective cooking and preparing of food between audiences and home cooks. Collaboratively created by Noorlinah Mohamed, O.P.E.N. Kitchens is inspired by the philosophy of Lebanese culinary activist Kamal Mouzawak's Make Food Not War, which harnesses the power of food to gather people to enjoy the conviviality of eating and cooking together.
O.P.E.N. Kitchens, taking place from 8 to 30 July at various locations across Singapore, will feature 20 sets of home cooks, including couples, child/grandparent, daughter/mother teams as well as individuals, some of whom are well-known to us as cookbook authors, theatre, TV, and online celebrities. Each of them will offer stories, shared moments and an affection for food that is central to our identities as Singaporeans. Tucked and folded into each recipe are delightful nuggets waiting to be discovered and enjoyed – a secret technique, a sprinkle of family history or a slice of everyday wisdom.
