Mong Soon Ping spent 18 years as an IT professional in various industries such as aviation, banking and oil and gas. But when she discovered the beauty of 3D printing technology, she was inspired to strike out on her own. That’s how she established Tinkerwerx in October 2016, which carries her own line of fashion accessories and jewellery.
“It is a learning journey that never stops,” says Soon Ping.
In addition to nature and geometric shapes, she uses a geometric, mathematical pattern, called a Voronoi diagram in her designs. She’s also inspired by natural shapes like floral rings, honeycombs and the biochemical structures of enzymes and DNA. The jewllery are made with yellow or rose gold-plating, rhodium, steel, bronze, brass as well as polymer nylon.
Tinkerwerx may currently focus on fashion accessories and jewellery for ladies, but founder Soon Ping is not one to rest on her laurels. She’s planning to create a series for men, too, and also expand into ceramics made with cutting-edge 3D printing technology.
