Many couples wouldn’t want to spend an entire workday with their significant other, but Janelle Dong MacBay and Derek MacBay – co-founders and co-directors at Pinnacle Chiropractic – wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It’s the way our lives have been since we met in chiropractic school, shares Janelle. “This has created such a connection!”
Janelle and Derek are also winners of The Finder‘s 2018 Expatpreneur Awards.
The business and life partners say they share the same passions, purpose and vision, and decided that working for others was not something they wanted, which led them to found their first chiropractic clinic in Kovan in 2011. “We felt we were not able to express our true selves, and realised that working as a team allowed us to practice how we wanted to practice and form the type of clinic we wanted to have,” says Derek.
Currently, their family wellness practice offers chiropractic care, nutritional counselling, spinal and postural screenings and more. In addition to opening a new clinic in Holland Village, which caters to newborns, young children and pregnant women, Derek and Janelle have also developed the MovementMatters programme for kids. Available from birth, it utilises a reflex-and movement-based set of simple exercises and activities for kids to help balance and optimise their nervous systems during growth and development early in life.
“Janelle has undergone birth and postpartum doula training with Four Trimesters, successfully blending both her passions over the last few years, while I’m enrolled in a Functional Medicine and Ancestral Nutrition course through the Kresser Institute, which helps people to manage and overcome chronic diseases naturally through nutritional deficiencies, toxicities and lifestyle changes,” says Derek.
As a whole, the duo finds that they’ve have helped more families and children each year, which has inspired them to keep growing and serving more communities throughout Singapore. “The beauty of it is that everyone can speak the same language of health, as we are all made up of the same organic materials,” says Derek.
