What’s the deal with quinoa? It’s a slimmer substitute for carbs, it’s incredible protein-rich… but superfood or not, we’re loving it anyway.
Here are our favourite spots for a hearty meal when we’re feeling like going easy on the grains.
Find stealthy – and healthy – eats at this cosy cafe. The Ninja Bowls comes with a chock full of premium Japanese-inspired ingredients like Japanese aburi cha shu (torched pork belly), yaki unagi (grilled eel), blanketed atop your choice of base (read: quinoa).
Want something more interesting? Try the Tokyo Superfood – garlic-fried quinoa with tuna tataki (seared and marinated tuna), cauliflower pops, shimeiji mushrooms, corn kernels, and a fried egg.

NEXT: Grain Traders →
If any place were to dispel the myth that healthy food is boring, Grain Traders would be it. (Chicken thigh hardly ever tasted so good.)
You get to choose your base – from salad greens to clean soba noodles, or white rice for those who insist, but trust us, you’re here for the quinoa.
#01-01/02/03 CapitaGreen, 138 Market St, Singapore 048946; #01-03/04 100 AM Mall, 100 Tras St, Singapore 079027 Website
NEXT: Red Baron →
Can’t let go of local food? Try Red Baron’s Quinoa Goreng – a spin-off of Nasi Goreng (Malay fried rice), using quinoa as a base and served with shrimps, chicken, chilli padi, a sunny side up and ikan bilis (fried anchovies).
Healthy meal means we get a free pass for dessert, right? Right. The French Toast is a clear winner – eggy brioche doused in addictive gula melaka sauce.
Gillman Barracks, 45 Malan Rd, Singapore 109455
NEXT: A Poke Theory →
Hawaiian food is too good to be reserved only for the beach life, and we’re getting our dose at A Poke Theory.
The fresh poke bowls are packed with the freshest flavours, from marinated cuts of seafood to toppings like lime avocado, BBQ corn, and more. Our favourite: the base of lemon herb quinoa, equal parts zesty and nutty.
You’ll also find superfood smoothie bowls sprinked with quinoa puffs.
27 Boon Tat St, Singapore 069623
NEXT: DW Workshop →
Even the most uninitiated of dieters would be instantly converted by the wholesome bowls with flavourful (we’re not kidding) roasted vegetables and tender, premium meats.
For the base, there’s basmati rice for those wanting to indulge to red quinoa for those looking for a healthy option – not that this, too, isn’t an indulgence.
