Restaurants at luxe hotel Grand Hyatt Singapore, including Pete’s Place, mezza9 and Oasis, have all stepped up their eco-game.
Their menus now include more vegan and vegetarian foods, and the hotel also has a system to convert leftovers into pathogen-free fertilisers to grow its own rooftop herb garden! Check out what’s good at these sustainable restaurants all located in Grand Hyatt:
One of Singapore’s most authentic Italian restaurants, Pete’s Place presents its first-ever plant-based Italian lunch buffet ($32 for adults; $20 for children) with a yummy selection of vegan pizzas, pastas and desserts. At the buffet, you can also sample the legendary Omnipork – a plant-based protein made from pea, Non-GMO soy, shiitake mushroom and rice.
Environmentally conscious diners will love the Beyond Burger ($25) at mezza9 as well. Launched in the U.S. in 2016, the 100-percent plant-based, gluten-free and soy-free burger patty is already an icon, as it has the flavour characteristics of a conventional beef patty without harming the environment.
When you’re at Oasis, try the JUST Egg sandwich ($18). Made from mung beans, this cholesterol- and antibiotic-free JUST Egg requires less water and creates less carbon emissions than eggs from chickens.
Edible leftovers are vacuumed and packed every day, then picked up by Kerbside Gourmet, which delivers the food to the South Central Community Family Service Centre for distribution to low-income families in Singapore.
All non-edible surplus food is processed by an in-house Food Waste Management Plant, which converts an average of 500 to 700 kilograms of such food each day into pathogen-free fertilisers. The fertilisers produced are then used at all the green spaces in the hotel.
