Born in 1934, and originally from Germany, Mr Wolfgang Blass initially became a winemaker purely to gain employment. In 1966, Wolf produced small parcels of his own wine in a humble tin shed on Bilyara Road in South Australia's Barossa Valley. Wolf learnt that Bilyara was the Aboriginal name for "Eaglehawk", and with the eagle as Germany's national emblem, choosing the symbolic bird for the Wolf Blass logo became an easy decision. Today Wolf Blass is still actively involved in the global wine industry and continues to champion his philosophy that Wolf Blass wines should stand for "quality, character and consistency".
