TF: You became an entrepreneur at the age of 21. What challenges did you face and how did you become a spiritual coach?
ST: Because I was so young, I lacked experience, was bullied by clients and sometimes didn't get paid for the work I did because I didn't have a proper system in place.
While I enjoyed the challenge and excitement of being an entrepreneur, I still felt something was missing in my life. When I turned to alcohol and substance abuse for solace, I knew I had to make a drastic change so I embarked on a painful journey of self-discovery. My own recovery inspired me to incorporate spiritual principles into my work.
TF: How do you help entrepreneurs who lack self-confidence?
ST: In my coaching, I ensure my clients are highly committed and I give them "homework" to apply what they've learned in my class to their daily lives. This subsequently improves their skills and builds confidence.
TF: Any success stories?
ST: Several! A client in California went from being confused about what to do with her life to realising her calling as a health and nutrition consultant. Another client started her business earning a meagre salary which increased many folds after only three months of coaching.
TF: What are the misconceptions about entrepreneurship?
ST: Too many solo entrepreneurs reckon being boss means they can have high teas and long lunches with friends! In fact discipline is vital in running a business. Also many small business owners tend to run their business with the mind-set of an employee and not an employer.
TF: Any advice for readers contemplating entrepreneurship?
ST: Before you embark on building a business ask yourself if your passion goes beyond monetary gain. There's only so much material wealth one can accumulate. If you have other drivers, this ensures when the going gets tough - and it will - you won't bailout too quickly but will see the business through all the ups and downs.
