Quirky ways to celebrate your love at the Singapore Flyer, Underwater World Singapore, Singapore Botanic Gardens & the Jurong Bird Park.
Love is a many splendored thing and should be honoured in many splendid ways. JASSMIN PETER offers original and quirky ways for you and your loved one to express your love and your individualism in the Lion City - may it be part of a wedding ceremony, vow renewal or simply a celebration of love.
With love birds
With colourful and multi-talented birds and the world's tallest man-made waterfall in an aviary as your backdrop, your celebration of love at Jurong Bird Park will be nothing short of spectacular. If you choose to hold your event at the Park's African Waterfall Aviary, one of the fine-feathered residents will be more than happy to be your ring bearer. You can even release lovebirds to symbolise your bond or opt for Mandarin Ducks, highly considered auspicious to keep your love alive forever.
The Jurong Bird Park has stunning views at every turn. Capture memories amidst greenery, stunning-coloured birds, hidden mini gardens and pathways in a private buggy. You can also pose with the birds at the Lory Loft, Pelican Cove, Flamingo Lake, African Waterfall Aviary and Panorail. Later, join your guests for sumptuous treats in the Lakeview Room overlooking the waters laced with 1,001 dusted pink flamingos. Sounds like a dream doesn't it? 2 Jurong Hill. In the heart of nature
Standing the test of time since 1859, the magnificent Singapore Botanic Gardens is the epitome of commitment and an ideal place to revel in your love. While the colossal park may have several unique pockets perfect to hold your event, here are some of our recommendations.
Burkill Hall is a historical British colonial bungalow built in 1866 and refurbished to use as an exclusive venue for weddings and special occasions. Situated at the Botany Centre, Burkill Hall is surrounded by pretty Swan Lake, the Saraca Stream Walk and overlooks the National Orchid Garden, which is home to a dazzling bank of gorgeous orchid blooms.
Another venue worth considering is Villa Halia. Beautifully articulated by the lush foliage of the Ginger Garden and divided into three main areas - the Drawing Room, Courtyard and Gallery Room - it's the perfect location for a romantic garden ceremony or celebration and also part of a popular new trend of grouping your guests into different venues so they can mingle in comfort with those they're familiar with. For example, you can host a formal sit-down dinner for family members in the air-conditioned Gallery Room and Drawing Room while non-family attendees can choose to enjoy a carefree, relaxed buffet in the Courtyard. For a more adjoined party, you can utilise the spaces at different times - a welcome ceremony or solemnization in the Courtyard, dinner in the Gallery Room and post dinner drinks at the Drawing Room. And with the renowned Halia restaurant catering, you can definitely expect nothing short of an exceptional epicurean dining experience. Villa Halia also has an entourage of professional photographers, make-up artists and cake experts to help you with the end-to-end planning of your special day. 1 Cluny Road. On top of the world
The sky's the limit when you choose to celebrate your love 165-metres above ground level at the Singapore Flyer. Invite up to 24 of your nearest and dearest and enjoy a couple of exclusive hours in a romantically-themed capsule. Sip on Moet & Chandon champagne and nibble on a premium menu of canapes, pastries and cake. The highpoint
- pardon the pun - of your event is having the continuously changing stunning city skyline as your backdrop. During the day trip you'll be looking at serene waters contrasting with the bustle of the city, reflecting your steadfast devotion to each other. And at night, the city lights dance gleefully in the waters below, shining the way to shimmering ideas of adventures you will share together.
The party doesn't stop in the capsule. Venture out and explore Singapore Flyer's built-in rainforest. Take a relaxing stroll along the winding access paths and stop at lush vegetation, cascading water displays, streams and rocky outcrops to capture picturesque moments. And while your guests leave with a collection of irreplaceable memories plus a personal Singapore Flyer gift, you and your loved one get to check into The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore for the after party! And the best part is you get to re-live all the memories a year later on your anniversary with your pair of complimentary Singapore Flight tickets. 30 Raffles Avenue. Under the sea
Take the plunge - literally - as you exchange vows immersed amongst Underwater World Singapore's fascinating and exotic deep-sea denizens. Your solemnisation ceremony will be held as part of a Dive with the Sharks programme and it will see you and your partner dressed in full diving gear, complete with oxygen tank, underwater together with your solemniser, providing he or she is comfortable doing so. You don't need to be a certified diver in order to qualify as Underwater World welcomes both divers and non-divers.
During your 30-minute ceremony - that's the maximum time you're allowed to stay underwater - you'll communicate through flash cards, holding your handwritten responses, and simple hand gestures. Your guests will be able to view the entire ceremony through the viewing gallery as they position themselves along the 83-metre-long travelator. And because of the sheer size of the place, you can invite as many guests as you want, but this also means your ceremony is open to the public. Don't forget to extend an invitation to the 2,500 marine creatures which inhabit the oceanarium you're crashing, including the brightly coloured corals and exotic ocean dwellers such as moray eels, sea dragons and jelly fishes. And should you worry someone might object to your union or cause some drama, a little fish told us the ever-vigilant sharks will take care of that! 80 Siloso Road.
