Rakuzen: delectable Japanese cuisine at affordable prices

Following the success of its first outlet at Millenia Walk, Rakuzen brings its tried and tested concept to its second location in the East together with a revamped menu. Synonymous with delectable Japanese cuisine at affordable prices, Rakuzen prides itself in serving ultra-fresh seafood - it imports its sashimi twice a week from the Japanese regions of Ishikawa and Kagawa. It might be hard to decide what to order from the lengthy menu so here are a few recommendations. Try the Mame aji tsumami - mini whole horse mackerel coated with seasoned batter and deep-fried, and the fire mackerel - saba fish marinated with rice wine vinegar and wrapped in konbu. This dish is blow-torched at the table to give the skin a crisp texture while melting the fat slightly to give a succulent result. Rakuzen's sushi and sashimi creations include Toro aburi (surface-grilled fatty tuna) kanpachi (amberjack) carpaccio and aburi sushi moriawase (assorted grilled sushi). There's also a selection of skewered choices, grilled seafood, rice and noodle dishes, tempura and hot pot items. www.rakuzen.com.sg TIME 2 @ MILLENIA WALK 9 Raffles Boulevard, #01-16/19.
