German European School Singapore: learn beyond the traditional academic classroom
The German European School Singapore (GESS) is an international school with a distinct European character. Set in lush greenery, both of the School's campuses serve as a home away from home for 1,400 students made up of 40 nationalities. Catering to students from preschool to grade 12, GESS's curriculum is divided into two components - a German speaking section where German is the language of instruction and an English speaking European section which teaches the IB programme.
GESS offers a learning experience beyond the traditional academic classroom, supporting and nurturing students to become balanced, responsible and informed world citizens. Students learn a minimum of three languages - German, English and a third language of choice which they can choose from the Mother Tongue Support Programme. Through the programme, students get to continue their mother tongue education while being strongly supported by professional tutors. Currently Dutch native speakers can choose to incorporate Dutch as a regular subject within their IB programme and plans are already underway to offer the programme for additional European languages.
