10 quick tips for sustained energy
Feeling sluggish? Try these quick fixes for enhanced and sustained energy levels.

1. REST Nothing beats eight hours of sleep a night, plus quick cat-naps when needed.

2. STRETCH Bend, twist and rotate your body. This ensures oxygen flows through to tired muscles, re-energising your internal organs.

3. BREATHE For enhanced clarity and alertness, breathe quickly and deeply several times to send a flow of fresh oxygen direct to your brain.

4. HYDRATE By drinking water regularly, you support cell function - efficiently redirecting energy where and when you need it most.

5. SUPERFOODS Replace high-sugar snacks and foods with wholegrains and superfoods (see the food pyramid on page HL4) for sustained energy. No more mid-afternoon energy slumps!

6. MOVE Movement "breaks up" stagnant energy, gets your heart pumping and circulates energy throughout your body.

7. TAKE A BREAK Step away from an energy-depleting environment or task, to regroup and recoup your energy. You'll then return refreshed and accomplish the task at hand in half the time.

8. BLEND FOODS For a quick cleanse, replace complex and heavy meals with lightly-blended superfood smoothies and vegetable soups. This redirects energy normally used for digestion towards burning excess fat.

9. GO NATURAL Spend time surrounded by nature to calm your nerves, focus your mind and centre your energy. Go for a walk in MacRitchie Reservoir, cycle along a nature trail, or sit under a tree in the park and meditate - simply count 10 blessings in your life.

10. GET QUIET To access the peace within yourself, turn off your television, phone and computer. Close your door, move to a quiet place in your home or office, close your eyes and breathe deeply.
