8 ways to eat right & lose weight, plus how to measure
a standard alcoholic drink
Lose weight and maintain your new body with these great tips...

1. Never miss breakfast. And always aim for a high-fibre breakfast mixed with protein such as a sandwich with wholemeal bread or a high-fibre cereal with milk, to kick-start your metabolism for the day.

2. Don't snack between meals, it makes weight loss difficult.

3. If you're eating three balanced meals each day you shouldn't need to snack.

4. When choosing food, choose low-fat options and items which contain less oil.

5. Eat fruit after both lunch and dinner - provided you consume well-balanced meals - to aid digestion.

6. Limit deep-fried foods to twice a week - if at all. If you're currently eating fried food every day, cut down gradually. Always opt for steamed or stir-fried foods.

7. Use canola, olive, soybean, corn, sunflower or safflower oils for cooking - they are unsaturated and contain less calories than saturated oils. Canola oil is a great option, as it can withstand high temperatures.

8. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day. And avoid sweetened beverages - such as carbonated drinks, sweetened green tea and fruit juices.

If you drink alcohol, consume no more than three standard drinks (as below) per day for men and two standard drinks per day for women. Always schedule at least two alcohol-free days into your week. One standard alcoholic drink may actually be smaller than you think.
It contains 10 grams of pure alcohol, equivalent to:
- 2/3 small can (220 millilitres) of regular beer, or
- 1/2 glass (100 millilitres) of wine, or
- 1 nip (30 millilitres) of spirits.
