Expat Profile: Nidhi Banthia Mehta creates a website for entrepreneurial mums

Entrepreneur NIDHI BANTHIA MEHTA speaks about how starting her own business led her to create a website where fellow women redefining motherhood and career can connect, share experiences and motivate one another.

TF: How did you become an entrepreneur?
NBM: I started my first venture BollyBeatz (www.bollybeatz.com) - a Bollywood dance fitness studio - when I was living in the USA nine years ago. Since then I've opened a centre in whichever country I've moved to, Singapore being my third. BollyBeatz holds 10 to 12 Bollywood dance choreography classes and BollyArobix classes a week, and also conducts special corporate and school classes.

TF: How did you then start SupermomPreneurs?
NBM: While running BollyBeatz I crossed paths with many women from all over the world. Each had a fascinating story to tell, revealing they'd often left lucrative jobs and chosen entrepreneurship over corporate life, finding it provided better balance between work and motherhood. Their ability to follow their passion and excel at it while finding time for their family and their varying talents inspired and amazed me. I realised these women are able to juggle their family life, kids and kitchens as effortlessly as they do their businesses and as such have amazing experiences to share. I decided they deserved recognition for their work while promoting their ventures and that's how my second venture, SupermomPreneurs.com came about. The website features stories on happy, content and motivated supermums and aims to instigate other women to recognise and harness their talents, empowering them to start a business of their own.

TF: What do you love most about Singapore?
NBM: I love the freedom, sense of safety and security, cleanliness and orderliness of the country and the efficiency of the Government. My husband jokes the Singapore Government should hire me as their ambassador, because I'm always praising the country and asking all our overseas friends to move here! Singapore is also very child-friendly.

TF: Any amusing "Singapore" experiences?
NBM: The first few months after moving here I'd have an entire conversation with someone who was speaking Singlish, without understanding a word they said! But now I'm used to the lingo and use the expression "can" very often.
