Face forward

Your skin is a living organism with needs that constantly change. Hormones and climate play a huge part in its health and products that worked even a month ago may not work now. To determine your skincare needs, make sure you consult only qualified beauticians with years of experience and proven track records. Valentino Hair and Beauty Salon.

Dull skin occurs when skin is very dry or dehydrated, blood circulation is poor, or daily lifestyle factors – such as stress, late nights, alcohol and smoking – are present. Facials are ideal for reviving a dull complexion as they stimulate cell regeneration, providing the ideal environment for beneficial products and oxygen to be absorbed by the skin. Beauti Instinct

Foot fixes

To avoid dry skin and cracked heels:

  • Keep your feet clean and apply moisturiser daily.

  • Exfoliate your feet twice a week with a foot file, followed by a foot scrub.

  • Do not cut corns, callouses or ingrown toenails yourself.

  • Keep away from corn cures and chemical compounds as they may worsen your problem.

  • If you are diabetic, do not bruise, cut or cause your feet to be accidentally burnt.

  • Refrain from exposure to dampness and seek professional help from your Chiropodist for sores on your feet or legs. Nailtech & Chiropody Centre

Ease inflammation

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation caused by excessive stretching of the plantar fascia – the tissue that extends along the entire length of the bottom of the foot. With plantar fasciitis, you often feel an acute pain – “hot poker” sensation – near the inside of the foot where the heel and inside arch meet. You usually feel the pain first thing in the morning, as the plantar fascia contracts back to its original shape following long periods of rest. As the day progresses, the pain often subsides as the plantar fascia is adequately stretched. Take steps to reduce any stress and pain by:

  • Avoid going barefoot – even in the shower.

  • Try stretching exercises in bed before you get up, focusing on your Achilles tendon, calf, and toes. Lay on your back with legs outstretched, moving your toes toward your head and holding this position for 30 seconds. Relax your feet and repeat this exercise four to five times.

  • Ice your heels – or the painful area – to reduce inflammation. Freeze a 12 to 16 ounce plastic water bottle. Place it on the floor and gently roll your foot over the bottle between heel and toe for five minutes three times a day.

  • Wear shoes or orthotics (arch supports) to support your arch and heel and ensure your shoes have proper shock absorption in the heel.

  • Maintain a healthy body weight.

  • Avoid running on hard or uneven ground. Birkenstock Boutique
