Stay healthy at work

If you're deskbound, try these tips:

1. Drink plenty of water
and keep caffeine intake to a minimum.
2.
Move as often as you can - the "best" position is always the next one. Dynamic pressure over your intervertebral discs created by movement is preferable for maintaining disc hydration and health.
3.
Take a mini-break regularly - at least every hour. Move about, walk around or get up and stretch.
4. Keep your computer mouse and telephone within easy reach, alternating between the left and right hand side to alleviate tension in your neck
and shoulders.
5.
If you have a free float or recline mechanism on your chair, use it to regularly change your position. This will help maintain tone in your trunk muscles - improving circulation, breathing and alertness.
6. If you have an electronic height-adjustable workstation, use the opportunity to sit, perch or stand whilst continuing with your office work. If your desk is at fixed height, try to stand whenever possible, such as when you're on the phone or talking to colleagues.
