Interiors to inspire

Easy ways to create a home you'll adore...

Small changes - big impact
Small details can often change the complete look of a room. Create impact by placing fresh flowers in one accent colour within a room. Whether you use exotic flowers for an earthy look, or a bunch of tulips for simple beauty, place them in an oriental lacquered vase, or a clean modern glass vase - each vase offering a different theme. Pillows are extremely versatile and offer another way to change a room; their statement can be more powerful than you think! emgallery

Homes with personality
Home-styling is about making your home reflect your personality. We're confident in creating a personal look that's fashionable, but we're often anxious when it comes to coordinating furniture styles, trends and eras, for our home. Home-styling is the gift of combining objects in a way to create a pleasing and comfortable home environment.

  1. Never copy a look. Instead, use magazines and outside influences to inspire you to develop your own sense of style.
  2. Invest wisely when buying big pieces of furniture. Follow your instincts. If you're still thinking about something you first noticed days earlier, then that's the piece you should invest in.
  3. Go for basic and neutral colours, adding highlight colours through accessories and soft furnishings.
  4. Blend antique and contemporary furniture to create a unique identity for your home which showcases your personality.
  5. Keep it simple and avoid clutter.
  6. Have fun while you're doing it!

Getting started...

Set a budget Focus on the rooms you use the most, first.

Choose your style Look through magazines and note the common factors in all the pictures you like.

Select your colour scheme Pick colours you and your family love. Carry your colour scheme throughout your home, letting one colour dominate each room. Most people feel comfortable with one dominant colour and two or three accent colours in each room.

Mix and match prints Begin with a main print you love. Freely mix and match floral, stripes, plaids, checks or textures with your main print using the same colours throughout the room to tie it all together. Home Fashions

Fabric 101

When choosing fabric for upholstery always consider the colour, pattern and texture.

  • Colour establishes mood and can change your perception of space. Remember, light tones usually require more cleaning.
  • Pattern may establish a style you want to create: lodge, country, French provincial, Asian or English...
  • Texture contributes to the way a fabric reflects or absorbs light and thus affects its colour. It can be smooth, soft, crisp or coarse.
