Home help: the ins & outs
Part-time hire
Legal Check Always contact an established part-time maid agency, licensed by the Ministry of Manpower (http://www.mom.gov.sg/). In this way you'll be following legal procedure as licensed agencies are required to conduct due diligence checks on their employees and their paperwork. Note: only Singaporeans or Permanent Residents are legally able to work as part-time domestic helpers. Those with a work permit issued under a private employer are unable to work for anyone other than that specific employer.
Insurance A licensed part-time agency will ensure your helper is covered by the necessary insurance.
Suitability Only an agency specialised in hiring part-time maids will have a suitable pool of candidates familiar with the unique needs of a household requiring a part-time service.
Guarantee Make sure the agency you select protects your interests by providing a guarantee "replacement" period, should a change of helper be required.

Finding the right domestic helper
Ensure the agency you're working with is accredited by the Consumers Association of Singapore for Good Business Practice.
Request testimonials and references to ensure levels of honesty and professionalism.
Check if they have a system to match the right domestic helper to your family.
Ensure the agency offers a reasonable guarantee period and check if a free replacement with no hidden costs is available if the helper does not work out.
Is there a follow-up programme should you become unsatisfied with the maid's performance?
