Where Off Bintan Island, Indonesia - journey time is just over three hours. Take a ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Bintan Resorts Ferry Terminal, a complimentary bus transfer to Tanjung Pinang and complimentary boat ride to Pangkil. Or ferry to Tanjung Pinang and then take the complimentary boat ride to Pangkil, for a shorter travelling time. Additional pickups from Tanjung Pinang are charged at $125 per trip.
Stay Pangkil can accommodate 10 to 30 adults and children - although around 20 is ideal. Four stand alone two-storey "driftwood palaces" are equipped with two king size beds, one has a king-size bed and two day beds, while another two residences make perfect retreats for couples. If you've additional guests to accommodate, adventurous couples can make use of the poolside Gazebo; stowaway single beds and tents are also available. As the island must be booked by one group at any time, Pangkil is best for family gatherings, group getaways, weddings and birthday parties.
Eat Friendly, discreet staff prepare all meals - including an afternoon treat of homemade donuts that usually causes a riot. Expect delicious platters of steamed fish, fried chicken, salads, tasty pasta dishes and stir-fried vegetables. Children are fed before adults, so while the kids are safely tucked up in bed you can rejoin the party - which usually ends with marshmallows toasted over the bonfire on the beach. A full bar is provided and you can bring one bottle of duty-free booze per person - corkage charges apply.
Fun Crystal clear waters are ideal for snorkelling, kayaking, sailing and swimming. Verdant jungle provides a contrast to the wide beach and a sculpted swimming pool is the perfect alternative to the ocean if the tide is low or the sea too rough. Low tide is also the perfect time to view the marine life residing in the coral reefs close to shore.
Rates Pulau Pangkil Kecil is rented out as an entire island. Weekdays and Sundays: $2,200 per night for up to 10 people - additional adults are $125 to $150 per night and children aged three to 12 years pay $75 per night. Weekends: bookings are a minimum of two nights. Friday after lunch until Sunday after lunch is priced at $5,500 for the whole island and up to 10 people. Additional adults are $150 to $250 per night and children $100 per night. No charge applies for children under three. Rates include all meals. Summer holidays are more expensive with July and August weekends priced at $6,000. Low season rates of $5,500 for two nights for up to 12 people are available in January and February.
