Singapore Food Festival 2010: tasty finds for less
The Singapore Food Festival - the Lion City's most highly-anticipated food event - is back, presenting you with the perfect opportunity to sample unique, local flavours combined with our island home's rich, cultural heritage.
The Singapore Food Festival (www.singaporefoodfestival.com) returns from July 16 to 25 to showcase its 17th annual smorgasbord of tasty delights. Bringing Singapore's much-loved local cuisine to the world stage - for prices as low as $2 a meal - this "festival for foodies" is a showcase of tastings, culinary workshops and gastronomic events, as Singapore gains pace on its journey to become Asia's capital of culinary innovation.
As Andrew Phua, Director for Tourism Shopping & Dining at Singapore Tourism Board, confirms, "Singapore is known for its range of cuisine and Singaporeans are known for their endearing obsession with food! So it's not surprising the Singapore Food Festival has remained very popular, as it creates opportunities to rediscover personal, favourite dishes. Everyone can experience the distinctive, constantly-evolving food culture Singapore is famous for!"
Themed differently every year, with one ethnic local featuring as the focal point, with dishes from other cultural backgrounds becoming part of fringe activities, the Festival allows you to experience and savour the country's multi-cultural diversity first-hand. This year's festival focuses on specialty dishes from Singaporean Chinese dialect groups such as Cantonese, Hainanese, Hakka, Hokkien and Teochew. Bon appétit!
