Good teeth - for life!

Your dental health is closely linked to your overall wellbeing, so looking after your teeth throughout your lifetime should feature high on your list of priorities. Conditions such as puberty, pregnancy and stress can affect your gums, as can chronic or terminal illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, certain heart conditions, cancer and osteoporosis. Additionally, The Oral Care Centre advises maintaining good dental health prior to and during any medical treatment, to ensure no premature loss of teeth or complications. 10 Sinaran Drive, #10-17 Square 2.           Are you guilty of grinding your teeth? Dr Florence Li believes most people clench and grind their teeth without being aware of it. Known as bruxism, grinding and clenching can be stress-related, but some people brux regardless - even when they're relaxed or on holiday. Some grind during the day, while others grind during sleep. Children can also brux as they catch some zzz's - you can hear the grinding noise! Chronic bruxers can cause significant damage to their teeth, often wearing them down excessively, even causing them to fracture or break. Brushing your teeth too hard can cause additional damage.
To prevent wear, you can have a bite-splint or night-guard made specifically for you. Headaches and other associated symptoms should also abate. 1 Orchard Boulevard, #08-05 Camden Medical Centre. Tel: 6887 3104, www.drflorenceli.com, Email: drflorenceli@yahoo.com
