XSProject aims to raise awareness about environmental damage and poverty through education and innovative design, by recycling and re-using consumer waste to create a range of funky bags and accessories and create earning opportunities for the poor and the disadvantaged. XSProject purchases plastic consumer waste from Jakarta's "trash pickers" at prices well above market rates - providing additional, much-needed income. Working in conjunction with other foundations and cottage industries, the waste is then transformed into fun-ctional accessories, teaching valuable life skills to the people involved and helping to make a strong environmental and social statement.

We all know the three Rs: REDUCE how much you use, REUSE what you can and RECYCLE the rest. But the fourth and most important R is to REFUSE to buy disposable or single use items. Instead, buy good quality, long lasting products and dispose of what's left in the most environmentally-friendly way.
